NNEMA

Nevada Neighborhood Emergency Management Association

The Nevada Neighborhood Emergency Management Association is our alternative to FEMA. We know we cannot depend on our federal government to assist in a timely manner after an emergency. It is up to us all to prepare for misadventures, at a local level.

Montessori Class Trip
Oct 28th, 2006
Today I spoke before a Montessori class here in Reno. They were 7th graders, and seemed so young and vulnerable. They had earlier visited the Democratic, and Republican headquarters here in town, and I met them at their school to talk about Greens. They are our future, and we must give them tools to work with. I talked with them about learning to think outside the box. I asked them to write the word four. Then we discussed that four can also be written as 4, for, four, fore, or IV. Then I asked them to write down two. Which they quickly caught on is also too, to 2 and II.
Sharp kids. I stressed how important it is for them to read well, and to read often. Reading is the way to expand horizons, to learn how to learn.
I mentioned that when I was a kid, we learned in school such things as 'duck and cover', and the realization that there were 50,000 nuclear warheads ready to launch at moments notice.
And that they don't have to worry about that too much right now. And, I cautioned them about Peak Oil Production, and its implications, and not to be afraid, but realize that we elders will be there to help them. Won't we??? I also wrote www.NNEMA.org on their blackboard, and said that after the elections this site will go up as a tool for all of us to use, to learn emergency proceedures, self sufficiency, neighborhood networking, gardening, renewable energy, and our stewardship with our Earth.
Perhaps one or more of those young ones will carry this ball, and if so, this whole running for office thing will have been well worth it....
We don't know the future. It is unattained, probably different than we imagine, and susceptible to our machinations.
So today we planted some seed corn.
I think it'll sprout.
I think we'll have a good harvest.
